Seine Cruises

Seine cruises are extremely popular amongst visitors, given that a series of rivers and canals run right through the city. Many of these boats have restaurants, sun decks and incredible panoramic window, not to mention fabulously unique views of the riverbank and such attractions as the Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Louvre Museum and the Eiffel Tower.

Bateaux Mouches provides a 75-minute cruise which leaves every half-hour or so from the Right Bank of the Seine, near the pont de l’Alma. Seine cruises are very affordable, costing roughly 10 euros for adults and around 5 for children ages 13 and under. Bateaux Mouches also offers lunch and dinner cruises, which are naturally a bit more expensive. The two dinner cruises, particularly the later of the two, is a fancier affair requiring evening dress and ties and jackets for men.

The company Marina de Paris is another lovely option if you’re looking for a lunch or dinner cruise. The company Paris Canal offers a great tour called Seine et le Canal St-Martin, which will introduce you to the many waterways of Paris, including the Seine river, an underground tunnel beneath the place de la Bastille and the Canal St-Martin.

Tours depart twice a day: from mid-March through mid-November: at 9:30am from the quays in front of Musee d’Orsay (Metro stop: Solferino) and at 2:30pm from in front of the Cite des Sciences et de l’Industrie at Parc de la Villette (Metro stop: Porte de la Villette). During the rest of the year, there are only tours on Sundays.

While it’s not technically a “cruise”, Batobus, which operates all year round, is a form of public transportation that stops at eight key points along the Seine river. The boats run the route every 15 to 30 minutes between Port de la Bourdonnais (Metro stop: Eiffel Tower/Trocadero) and Port des Champs-Elysees (Metro stop: Champs-Elysees). The total journey time, if you stay aboard from start to finish, is about a half-hour and tickets are under 8 euros per ride. You can also get a day pass, which permits unlimited journeys, for under 15 euros.
