Why it Pays to Visit the Paris Monuments & Historic Buildings

Whether or not you are a lover of modern or classical architecture, it will be easy for you to appreciate everything that Paris has to offer as a city. Paris architecture is particularly interesting because it may very well be one of the most well-preserved cities around the world. The stunning examples of ancient and modern Paris architecture can be seen in the monuments and historic buildings.  Each pavement, street or tiny neighborhood has its very own story to tell.

1. The French Communist Party Headquarters
This gem of a building was designed by Brazilian Oscar Niemeyer.  The building was constructed from 1967 to 1972.  The building has curved walls inside, the central chamber is something that is worth a visit, as well as the other meeting rooms.

2. Cinémathèque Francaise
This is a building designed by Frank Gehry which has a limestone-and-zinc exterior.

3. Bibliothèque Nationale de France
The equivalent of a French national library is designed by French architect Dominique Perrault which opened in 1996. They say that the inspiration behind the four vertical towers is that they are shaped like an open-faced book.

- The Passerelle Simone de Beauvior
This is Paris’ answer to London’s famous Millennium Bridge.  The 300-m pedestrian and cyclist footbridge was designed by Dietmar Feichtinger from Austria.

This beautiful representation of Paris architecture melds the old with the  new: the classical museum architecture is combined with the modernity of the pyramid structure itself.

- The Institut du Monde Arabe
The designer of this gem of a building is Jean Nouvel who combined the modern with the traditional Arab architecture.


- Centre Pompidou

Finally, there’s the Centre Pompidou which is a practical yet creative take on modern Paris architecture.
